Environment & Responsibility: Our 8 Areas of Action

As a non-food supplier to retail companies across Europe, we take responsibility for our business operations, our site and the way we work with our partners. We uphold this responsibility at our site in Großostheim and work together with our partners worldwide to continuously develop our social and environmental requirements.

We regularly review our processes, including our use of resources and the greenhouse gas emissions associated with our business activities. The areas we consider include energy consumption, mobility, packaging, supply chains and internal business processes.

Through our 8 Areas of Action, we bring together our current initiatives and provide insight into the areas in which we are continuing to develop our processes.

1. Our Site – Energy and Resource Management

When our site in Großostheim was planned in 2015, energy consumption and resource use were already taken into account. Today, our site uses LED lighting, modern heating technology and other technical solutions.
We regularly review our infrastructure and internal processes. As part of this review, we also assess opportunities to further develop our energy and resource management.

2. FSC®-Certified Paper for Selected Product Packaging

For selected product packaging, we use FSC®-certified paper.

We source this paper through appropriately certified supply chains.

When selecting our packaging materials, we consider recognized certification schemes such as FSC® and assess opportunities to further develop our packaging solutions.

3. Electric and Hybrid Vehicles in Our Fleet

Mobility is an important part of our day-to-day business operations. Our passenger vehicle fleet includes electric and hybrid vehicles. This allows us to consider different drive technologies as part of our mobility strategy and provides opportunities to gradually develop our fleet. The charging infrastructure required to support these vehicles is also taken into account accordingly.

4. Mobility Options and Flexible Working Arrangements

We offer our employees a range of options to support flexibility in their day-to-day working arrangements. Through our JobRad scheme, employees can use bicycles and e-bikes for their commute. We also offer remote working where this is compatible with the requirements of the respective role. These options form part of our overall approach to work and mobility.

5. Spare Parts and Repair Services

For selected products, we offer spare parts and repair services.

Where appropriate, customers can have their products repaired so that they can continue to use them.

6. Responsibility Across the Supply Chain

When working with our suppliers, we take defined social and environmental requirements into account.

Some of our suppliers in Asia are assessed against the amfori BSCI framework. In addition, selected suppliers have their environmental management systems certified to ISO 14001.

Together with our partners, we work to further develop relevant information and requirements across the supply chain.

We regularly review our requirements for business partners and adapt them where necessary.

7. Transparency through EcoVadis

We use the EcoVadis rating to systematically assess selected areas of our business processes.

The assessment covers areas including the environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

The results help us identify areas where we can further improve and develop our processes.

8. Greenhouse Gas Emissions Accounting and Further Planning

Since 2023, we have been measuring our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions in collaboration with ClimatePartner. We are currently working with Fjol GmbH to expand our greenhouse gas inventory to include Scope 3 emissions.

This enables us to capture additional relevant sources of emissions across our value chain. Based on this work, we submitted our climate targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for review in autumn 2026.

As the next step, we will proceed with the SBTi validation process. We will further develop our measures based on the results of our greenhouse gas inventory and the areas for action identified as part of this process.
